Domini Games dropped another title from its fantasy series, and this time, it is taking the players to Ireland. Labyrinths of the Word: Fool’s Gold aims to maintain the momentum of the popular puzzle game series by introducing a promising concept of magic and leprechauns. Storyline and gameplay
As mentioned, the Labyrinths of the Word: Fool’s Gold opens a promising concept that involves magic and the infamous leprechauns. Having this plot may have made this an exciting Irish-theme gam— if only the plot was more focused. The game, unfortunately, wasn’t able to do more with the plot. In fact, one of the main problems of the game is that it has no focus. In the end, all plot points were tied together loosely by emotionally-flat characters and a vague idea of magic.
Fortunately, the gameplay makes up for the lack of the game’s storyline. The well-crafted adventure portion features some creative spins on the familiar inventory items. Moreover, there is a reasonable amount of backtracking that brings more challenge to the game.
Additionally, the puzzles are considerably challenging and fun. Don’t worry if you are not familiar with hidden-object puzzles. The game provides clear instructions on every puzzle, so you won’t get lost.
Speaking of hidden objects, the highlight of Labyrinths of the Word: Fool’s Gold has got to be the hidden object scenes. Not only are they highly interactive, but they are also creatively designed. The way the objects are hidden adds to the challenge, but not so much that you spend endless hours to look for things or exhaust your hints.
If you don’t want to play the hidden-object puzzles, the game provides you with the option to switch to the Match-3 format. Like the hidden-object scenes, the Match-3 boards are also brilliantly constructed.
Amazing visuals
Another thing that Labyrinths of the Word: Fool’s Gold excels in is its visuals. Despite leaning heavily towards fluorescent colors—in line with the studio’s tradition—the game boasts great artwork with stunning details. There are a plethora of fantasy elements in each scene, which is surprisingly not overwhelming.
The game’s enchanting musical scores also added more fantasy elements to the game. Not only did it narrate the game effectively, but it also completes the magical leprechaun world experience.
Labyrinths of the Word: Fool’s Gold was a very enjoyable and slightly addicting game. However, the core game is relatively short. If you wish to extend your magical journey, you will need to purchase the Collector’s Edition, which comes with a stack of bonuses, including a prequel bonus chapter, a strategy guide, cutscenes, soundtracks, concept arts, and wallpaper. The edition also offers replayable hidden object scenes and mini-games, as well as achievements, collectibles, morphing objects, and a customizable garden.
